Make sure to screw it in tight so that it's level with the surrounding area. 3. Apply joint tape over the seams of the drywall. This will help to reinforce it and make it less likely to crack. 4. Once the joint tape is in place, apply a coat of drywall mud over it. Use a putty knife or trowel to spread it evenly. 5. Allow the mud to dry completely. Once it's dry, sand it down so that it's flush with the surrounding area. 6. Apply a coat of paint to the area. Use a brush or roller to apply it evenly. Allow it to dry completely before using the area.
